I’m setting a provisional date of Sunday 12 March for our intro to navigation course.
Held in and around the beautiful Wye downs
You will learn essential skills to help you not only in your personal adventures but also those Ultra races that require you to carry a map and compass ( That no one hopes to use )
There are 2 parts to the day…
𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝟭 - Will be learning map and compass skills and theory behind effectively using a map and to also plan a route using a route card.
𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝟮 - Will be hiking around 10 miles as a group following the route you guys have planned, while we are out we will put into practice the skills we have learnt that morning.
Here are some of the key skills you will be learning:
• How to read and take a grid reference
• How to use a map and compass to navigate between two points
• How to interpret terrain based on map contours.
• To understand how to use map symbols
• To orientate the map with and without a compass.
• To use the orientated map to identify land features and indicate direction of travel.
• To choose simple navigation strategies and routes.
• To use linear features (e.g. paths and tracks) as handrails in simple navigation exercises.
• To estimate distance on the map.
• About contours, matching major landforms like hills and valleys to their map representation.
• To plan a safe, suitable walk.
• How to relocate when lost.
• Access rights and responsibilities
This will be 7-8 hours total training and hiking
The cost will be £50.00 per person.
